What is it?

Traditionally, it is made of a silk or velvet fabric. It is typically 2 meters or 6-8 feet in length.

What is the meaning behind it?

In the beginning of the Anand Karaj, before the lavan, the brides father comes up to the couple and places the Palla around the shoulder of the groom and hands the other end of the Palla to his daughter. Both bride and groom hold the ends of the Palla for the remainder of the ceremony. The Palla is a symbolization of the father giving away his daughter to the groom and signifies the union of the two.

Who brings the palla to the ceremony?

The groom/grooms side brings the Palla into the ceremony and waits for when the ceremony begins and it is time for the father of the bride to join the Palla between the bride and groom.

Can I use a flower Palla?

This is determined by you, your family and/or the Gurdwara. We have had a few Gurdwaras deny the use of floral Pallas. All Palla are made to order and therefore, it is advised to contact them and ask if they will allow it before purchasing.

What is it made out of?

All Palla are made out of a ribbon base that is doubled in ensure its integrity.

Can I customize my Palla?

Yes, all Pallas are made to order. We have shown our most common designs, sizes and basic colours we use below. We can however, customize colours, designs, lengths and floral types as well. This can all be discussed via consultation!
